The Department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate 1, SOM position. The incumbent supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                           

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in the publication of significant results.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

Join the forefront of translational research at the Sylvester Pancreatic Cancer Research Institute and the Department of Surgery, where we are dedicated to advancing the understanding, prevention, and treatment of pancreatic cancer through high-impact mechanistic and therapeutic research. The Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Associate 1 (full-time, temporary) to join Dr. Nagathihalli’s Lab and support experimental workflows focused on understanding the cellular mechanisms and therapeutic targets involved in pancreatic cancer progression. The Research Associate 1 will be responsible for conducting laboratory experiments in molecular and cellular biology, performing standard assays such as tissue culture, molecular cloning, reagent preparation, and maintaining accurate documentation of protocols, data, and results. Additional responsibilities include analyzing and interpreting experimental data, assisting in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations, participating in team meetings and collaborative projects, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The successful candidate is also expected to stay current with relevant scientific literature and emerging technologies.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                 

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required; Master’s Degree in Biology preferred

Experience:

Prior experience in cancer biology or pancreatic cancer research is desirable; animal handling experience is advantageous; familiarity with molecular biology techniques; gene-editing experience preferred
